The name Gozzy Gxmz is a mix of Korean and English; it can mean "homeless bears" or "broke bears." It describes the environmental state they are in, other species and ourselves included, and the unfortunate future they could face, loss of habitat, or homelessness. I chose this name because it is a unique, not-so-obvious nod to our current and future ecological state. I created this brand to be a place where people can obtain daily needs while also learning about climate change, what they can do to help, and also offsetting their carbon footprint.
Bears are the official symbol of Gozzy Gxmz because of the impact they had on me as a child. Often times bears are pictured when referring to global warming; polar bears on melting ice; black and brown bears running away from forest fires or deforestation. It was through these advertisements and documentaries that I first learned about climate change. It may very well be how a lot of other people learned about it as well. Watching these strong, majestic animals struggle to survive was eye-opening and heartbreaking. However, this tragedy isn't isolated to bears only, but to all animals. As a child, learning about the fault of humans and the sad reality of animals I felt hopeless, but I naively put my faith in humanity and its world leaders to make environment-focused decisions. Years later, global warming has accelerated drastically and humanity and it's global leaders have failed to slow down our negative impacts on the world. At this rate, we're headed to a point where there could be no more sea ice by the 2030s.
Considering everything, I can't discredit those who have fought for the environment. There are many vocal activists, world leaders, and individuals who have fought for better policies and regulations. But I'm here as a brand and individual to say that it's not enough because they are a few among billions. We all need to step up. We get so wrapped up in our own little worlds that we forget to stop and smell the roses. Only now, when we stop, there will be no roses to smell because of habitat destruction and rising temperatures. That is when people will take notice when it starts affecting their daily lives; when it's too late.
I still have faith in humanity. We have the power to contribute to the betterment of our planet. I am determined to empower individuals to make a significant impact on our planet and feel accomplished in doing so. The feeling of hopelessness that I once had often arises from believing that one's actions cannot influence the world, and I want to make it a thing of the past. That's why I created Gozzy Gxmz. I am here to help people help the planet. Every little action counts in the fight against climate change! Our collective efforts are critical to the future of our planet. Let's face it, we may have created this problem, but we can fix it. We owe it to ourselves to rectify the mistakes of the past. Let's do this together!
